Officer deploys taser gun after chasing MU senior

At 3:30 a.m. Sunday, a resident of 221 E. Vine St. alerted police to the area stating three males had just been in his backyard overturning a grill and lawn furniture.

According to the report, the officer located three males dancing on Campus Avenue.

One male allegedly turned as the officer approached nearby side yards. The officer reportedly shined his flashlight on the male subject and told him twice to stop.

The male then reportedly began heading northward in a sprint, scaling a five-foot fence.

As the officer approached the subject on the porch after scaling the wall, he told the subject to stop or he would deploy his taser gun.

The subject then reportedly jumped off an eight-foot porch and fell on his side. He immediately stood up and ran despite the officer's warning.

The officer then reportedly deployed the taser, making contact with the subject's back. However, the momentum of the running subject reportedly snapped the taser's leads, and he continued to flee.

The chase then led to the back of 124 E. Sycamore St. where the officer allegedly took the subject to the ground physically.

Once the officer had the subject on the ground, he allegedly refused commands until backup arrived.

He was identified as a Miami University senior at the station where he reportedly refused to participate in the booking process.

He was cited with two counts for obstructing official business and resisting arrest. He was then transported to Butler County Jail.

MU first-year allegedly falls down stairs after argument

Oxford police were dispatched around 1:30 a.m. Saturday to College Suites concerning a female who had fallen down the stairs.

When officers arrived, they found first-year Loree Trammell being attended by about 10 people. Several witnesses told police that they were going to take her to the hospital, but after she passed out several times, they decided to call 911.

Upon investigation, it was discovered that Trammell had been involved in an argument with another female at a party about a male. When Trammell was walking down the stairs, the other female allegedly pushed her down half the flight.

Trammell reportedly told police she was thinking of pressing charges as investigation is still pending.

Police find wobbling male trespassing in parked cars

Miami police patrolling Maple Street at 4 a.m. Saturday noticed two females waved the officer down stating that a male was opening car doors along the street.

The officer then saw a male exiting a silver car, and when the male noticed the cruiser, he reportedly began quickly walking unsteadily away.

When the officer asked the male why he was in the car, he allegedly told police he was looking for his friend's cell phone. He was identified as Miami first-year Robert Gilley.

The officer noticed that Gilley was having difficult holding a conversation as he slurred his speech and wobbled severely. Gilley told the officer that he'd had a few beers earlier but insisted that he wasn't intoxicated.

The officer inspected the vehicle and reported that all the contents of the vehicle had been taken out and spread all over the front seat. The owner of the vehicle reportedly told police that nothing had been damaged or stolen, but she said that Gilley had no right to be in her car.

When police contacted the friend for whose cell phone Gilley claimed to be searching, he allegedly told officers he did not have a car on campus and did not tell Gilley to look for his phone. Gilley was cited with underage intoxication and criminal mischief.
