"The commissioners have the authority once she resigns to nominate an acting auditor," Piper said. "In November, they will then nominate another person to take the acting auditor's position."
Piper said Roger's unjust behavior reflects negatively on elected officials.
"Anytime an elected official violates the law, it shakes the faith that the public has on public officials," Piper said. "When public officials violate the law-(officials) such as police officers, firefighters, etc-it makes elected officials seem unreliable. We are here to serve the people, and when someone messes up, it portrays that belief as untrue."
Clyde Brown, a Miami University professor of political science, said the representation of the Republican Party in Butler County has seemed somewhat unreliable.
"At least three Republican county officials have been found guilty of breaking the law or ethics violations recently, and there are some more hints of more to come … And now with Kay Rogers pleading guilty, this is without a doubt part of an unusual pattern of behavior within the county," Brown said.
Piper hopes for a replacement that can carry out the duties of a public officer.
"We are here to represent the people in the long run, and hopefully the next person who gets elected for this position will not make the same mistake," Piper said.
