Sade Logan of Robert Morris, averaging 25.5 points per game, and Amanda Jackson of Miami, averaging 22.4 points per game, put on a scoring frenzy scoring 33 and 22 points respectively. Even with Logan's 33 points, and career high eight 3-pointers, Jackson and the RedHawks won 82-74 to go 5-0 at home this season. It's the first time since the 1996-97 season that the 'Hawks have started the season winning their first five games at Millett Hall.
Miami started off strong taking an 8-2 lead, holding the Colonials without a field goal for the first five minutes. Things quickly changed when Miami's four turnovers in a four-minute stretch helped the Colonials tie up the game at eight with 15 minutes to go in the first half.
After Jackson nailed a 3-pointer and Robert Morris missed two free throws, junior guard Jenna Schone gave the RedHawks a nine-point lead by hitting a clutch 3-pointer with the shot clock expiring. On the very next possession she drove the lane making another basket, getting fouled and hitting the free throw.
"With teams focusing on me and Amanda, it's a lot easier to dish the ball around to all of the other players," Schone said. "With other players who can hit down shots, it takes a lot of the pressure off."
The 'Hawks stretched their lead to 13 points until the Colonials went on a late run to cut the lead to 37-30 going into the locker room at half time.
Unlike the past few games, the RedHawks came out cold in the second half. A four-minute scoring drought allowed Robert Morris to creep up within one point with 13:15 remaining.
After a Miami timeout, the Colonials took the lead for the first time in the game when Logan hit a 3-pointer and was fouled at the 6:49 mark. After Logan's free throw to complete a four-point play, the Colonials were up three.
Sloppy play from Miami led to a turnover and a five-point lead for the Colonials, but sophomore guard Courtney Reed sparked the RedHawks off the bench when she hit a clutch 3-pointer to bring the score within one possession. Schone soon responded with a 3-pointer that tied the game 67-67 with
