Miami police investigate Seal vandalism, damage
Miami University police are investigating a case of criminal mischief after vandalism to the school's Seal was discovered Monday. The damage allegedly occurred over the Thanksgiving holiday. The Seal; located between Roudebush, Upham, and Kreger halls at the Hub; reportedly had the words "Go Bucks" on the metal of the seal. The report states that Senior Grounds Supervisor Daniel Bertsch believes the letters were written in a metal alloy solvent or cleaner that damaged the Seal.
Officers discover first-year vomiting on lawn at party
Oxford police officers responded to a loud party on South College Avenue Saturday morning at around 3 a.m. Upon arrival, officers noticed a male bent over in front of the apartment complex vomiting on the lawn. He was identified as Miami first-year Jason Leon-Guerrero, 19. Officers reported that Leon-Guerrero could barely stand on his feet and his speech was slurred. He also smelled strongly like alcohol. He was cited for underage intoxication.
Speeding violation results in drug posession charge
Oxford police using radar Wednesday clocked a black Ford on College Corner Pike going 43 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour speed zone. Upon investigating the vehicle, the officer reportedly could smell burnt marijuana strongly emanating from the car. The driver was identified as Miami junior Justin Shawver. The officer reportedly asked Shawver, 'Where's the weed?" Shawver reportedly told police that it was on the floorboard of the car. After the three other passengers of the car got out, the officer reportedly located a bag with green vegetation and a smoking pipe in the shape of a lion with marijuana residue on it. Shawver was charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
OPD responds to complaint of intoxicated male in limo
Sunday, Nov. 18, Oxford police were dispatched to the corner of Spring Street and Campus Avenue by Night Out Limousine regarding a male that had thrown up in the back of a limo. Once officers arrived, they reported seeing a male unsteadily standing outside of the limo with vomit on his pants. He was identified as Miami first-year Brian Rieckhoff, 19. He was cited for underage intoxication. Rieckhoff also reportedly paid $140 of a $175 cleanup charge to the limo service while the officer was present.
Student attempts tequila theft from Super Wal-Mart
Thursday, Nov. 15, Oxford police investigating another case at Super Wal-Mart at 4:30 p.m. were approached by employees regarding a suspicious male.
The male had allegedly been seen taking a bottle of Carlos Tequila from the shelf. He was also seen entering the men's restroom. When officers caught up to the male, he was reportedly leaving the parking lot by climbing up an embankment. He was identified as Miami first-year Alex Koppelman. When officers asked him about the bottle, Koppleman told him he'd left them in the parking lot. Koppleman led the officers to two water bottles allegedly filled with tequila. He also led them the Wal-Mart men's bathroom that contained an empty bottle of Carlos Tequila. Koppleman was charged with theft and underage possession.
