Faculty member receives DUI after stop at green light
Just past 2 a.m. Saturday morning, Oxford police officers pulled over Miami University faculty member Margaret Giddens for erratic driving. Officers reported seeing a car pull up to the green traffic light at College and Church streets and remain stopped for about 20 seconds. The vehicle then allegedly continued slowly down the street when police reported that the car made a turn that was "drastically wider than it needed to be." When the officer spoke to Giddens, she allegedly smelled like alcohol and had bloodshot eyes. She also reportedly had difficulty getting her license out. The officer asked Giddens if she had been drinking, and she allegedly replied, "Just a little." Giddens reportedly performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was transported back to the Oxford Police Department. At the stations, Giddens reportedly blew a .25 percent blood alcohol content on the Breathalyzer. Giddens was cited with driving under the influence.

Sophomore allegedly hit in face at fraternity party
Miami sophomore Brittany Hughes alerted Oxford police at almost 11 p.m. Saturday that she had been assaulted at a fraternity party earlier that evening. According to the report, Hughes told police that while attending a Delta Chi fraternity party, two known subjects approached her-one being her former suitemate. One known subject allegedly asked the former suitemate if she wanted to hit Hughes. The suite mate reportedly replied that she did and one of the two suspects hit Hughes in the eye with a closed fist. Hughes told police that she did not know which of the two subjects actually hit her. She also stated that several witnesses at the party confirmed that both subjects apparently swung at Hughes. Police have reportedly tried to contact the subjects involved with the assault but contact with them has not been made.
