'Puffy dragon arms' hinder arrest near Shriver Center

Miami University Police officers on duty at Shriver Center at almost 3:30 a.m. Sunday noticed an intoxicated male in line at the Campus Grill.

He was reportedly wearing a green Halloween costume and unsteady on his feet. He was allegedly bumping into things and other patrons while in line. As officers approached the male he began to yell something unintelligible. He reportedly smelled like alcohol and had glassy eyes. Officers asked him for his ID, and he allegedly reached into his underwear.

As he pulled his hand out, officers reported that as he opened his hand like he had something in it to give them, he suddenly took off running.

The officer grabbed his hand to handcuff him, but the male struggled until he could run again.

The male struck a female onlooker on her upper back to get out of the way as officers pursued him.

Officers reportedly apprehended him just past the south side doors of Shriver. Once on the ground, he continued to struggle.

The arresting officer reported having difficult handcuffing him because of his resistance and the "puffy arms on the dragon costume he was wearing."

He was identified as Miami first-year Alex T. Jones. One assisting officer and the witness were transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

Jones was transported to Butler County Jail and charged with resisting arrest, underage intoxication and two counts of assault.

Police respond to complaint of 'leafy green substance'

MUPD officers were dispatched to Peabody Hall Monday evening at 8 p.m. regarding a drug complaint.

A resident told officers that a leafy green substance had fallen on her windowsill after she heard tapping coming from the room above her.

Officers investigated the room above, which belonged to first-years Rory Ward and Steven Wendler. Both were allegedly high at the time of the police interview.

When asked if there was any more marijuana in the room, the two denied the accusation.

After the officer explained the implications and told them she thought they were being dishonest, Ward and Wendler asked if they could have a private conversation.

Reportedly after 10 minutes, Wendler told Officer Haas that the marijuana was his and removed a blue and clear Rubbermaid container with a leafy substance in it. Wendler told the officer that Ward hadn't smoked any. Wendler was charged with possession of marijuana.

Sophomore reports stolen iPod at Hawk's Landing

Sophomore Lucas Cranwell alerted Oxford Police at almost 11 a.m. Monday that his apartment had been entered Oct. 20 and his iPod taken. Cranwell said he went to sleep while others were still awake at his Hawk's Landing apartment. When he woke up the next morning, Cranwell said his iPod was gone.

Male enters female's home without tenant's permission

Senior Michelle Zudic contacted Oxford Police at almost 10 p.m. Tuesday that a few hours earlier a suspicious character had been knocking at her College Suites apartment door.

She stated that at about 5 p.m. a male approached the door and put his finger over the eyehole of the door.

He then continued knocking for about five minutes. When no one answered, the subject allegedly stated, "Hey guys, it's me, Rob; open the door."

He then allegedly used a key access card to open up the residence door. Zudic and her roommates reportedly ran to their rooms and locked the door until the male subject had left.

During the incident, a manager at College Suites called one resident to state that a Rob had stopped to show her his Halloween costume. Zudic stated that she just wished to document the situation.
