The Luke Bryan concert was in full swing at Brick Street Bar and Grill Thursday, Oct. 18 as many Miami University students came to show their country spirits, despite the university being on fall break.

Bryan, a country musician, has been touring for a year and just released his first album with Capitol Records called, I'll Stay Me. It has reached as high as No. 2 on the Billboard Country albums chart.

Brick Street owner Mark Weisman said the show was a success and was pleased by the great turnout of students, given the fact that it was fall break on top of inclement weather. There were severe thunderstorm warnings and tornado watches issued throughout the evening, Weisman said.

"We thought the show was a huge success," Weisman said. "This was probably one of the best shows we've ever had at Brick Street."

Weisman said he was grateful to be able to bring a national act into a small town like Oxford.

Even though the concert fell during fall break, Weisman was hopeful that there would be a good turnout because of the strong student base that he sees at 45 East's Country Night
every Tuesday.

His prediction was right. The bar was packed with students by the time Bryan got on stage, shortly after 10 p.m.

Weisman was impressed with how Bryan connected with his audience and set off the energy of the crowd.

"I think he made many new fans," Weisman said. "Many students who came to the show somewhat indifferent about country music or perhaps more as a curiosity were blown away by the experience."

By the end of the performance the crowd did not want Bryan to leave, and after much cheering and chanting his band came back onstage to do an encore.

"He had everybody in that crowd singing and dancing," Weisman said. "He really knows how to win over a crowd, which says a lot about him as an artist."

Bryan broke through on the charts this year with his hit single "All My Friends Say," a song about a man running into an old girlfriend at a bar. His new single, "We Rode in Trucks," is scheduled to hit the radio in the next week, according to Bryan's agency, the William Morris Agency.
