Miami University sophomore Jonathan Mixell alerted Oxford Police that he had been assaulted at Fox and Hounds apartment complex at about midnight Thursday. According to reports, Mixell said that two white males he did not know approached him as he was walking between the complex buildings. The first male was described as wearing long jean shorts, a white hooded sweatshirt and as being about 5 feet, 8 inches tall. The second was described as wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, long khaki shorts and being about 5 feet, 11 inches tall. Mixell reported to police that he possibly saw the two males about a week prior at McDonalds.
Swim trunk clad sophomore receives DUI, fake ID citation
Miami University sophomore Jason B. Wettlin was arrested at almost 2 a.m. Sunday morning after he was pulled over by Oxford police for erratic driving. Reportedly, the officer was waiting at the light on Campus Avenue and High Street with his right turn signal on, when another car pulled around and took a right turn next to the turning police cruiser.
According to the reports, the car had to use vacated parking spots to get around the officer on Campus Avenue. After Wettlin was stopped, the officer identified the smell of alcohol in his car. Wettlin was also described as wearing just swimming trunks with no shirt. He reportedly explained to the officer that he had just been at a Malibu party and he was on his way to pick up his friends at a bar.
After failing a sobriety test, he was put under arrest and transported to the Oxford Police Department. Officers allegedly found fake identification on Wettlin. Once Breathalyzed, Wettlin reportedly blew a .081 blood alcohol content. He was cited with driving under the influence, underage intoxication, possessing a fake ID and overtaking and passing on the right.
Trail of 300-400 beer cans leads to littering violation
At 8:30 Saturday morning, Oxford Police observed a trail of about 300 to 400 beer cans on the lawn of 16 W. Sycamore Street. Officers followed the trail to Apartment A and identified the resident as Miami University first-year Nathaniel A. Rice. Rice reportedly took responsibility for the litter because of a party he had there the night before. He told officers that he had about 200 people there the night before and agreed that there were 300 to 400 beer cans in the yard. He was cited for littering.
