Staff changes at the Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life and Leadership should not cause any problems at Miami University, according to Dennis Roberts, supervisor of the office and associate vice president of student affairs.

Steve Dealph, former director of fraternal affairs, resigned in late May to pursue other career aspirations and former Assistant Director April Robles became the interim director after Dealph left July 1.

"She is going to be an active candidate for the permanent director position, too," Roberts said.

Robles will serve through the spring semester to provide continuity and will fill the position until July 1, 2008, when the permanent director will start.

Roberts said that Robles has worked in the office as an assistant director for six years and is used to the role and responsibilities.

"(The change has been) fairly seamless," Roberts said.

Roberts and Robles agree that the specific kind of person needed to fill the position has not yet been determined.

Roberts said they will definitely look for a candidate with both educational and Greek life experience because according to Roberts, the director position comes with a great deal of responsibility. The person oversees the more than 50 Greek organizations that are National Pan-Hellenic Association (NPHC), Panhellenic Association and Interfraternity Council (IFC) related, in addition to other duties.

The office will do a thorough search to find a suitable replacement for Dealph, Roberts said.

Robles explained that both the Greek community and campus would be involved in the search process. To do this, a committee will be formed that will include members from both the Miami campus and Greek community.

Roberts added that the process to find a new candidate has already begun. The office will be posting the availability of the job and will start accepting applicants at this time. The process to narrow down the applicants will most likely start after the first of the year in order to allow the office time to find as many candidates as possible.
