"After getting in touch with professors who are involved with disability studies, my involvement on Miami's campus has skyrocketed," Leap said. "I now have my own full PowerPoint presentation, and I am involved with many other organizations."
Some of the organizations Leap is involved with are Abilities First, Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center and the Southwest Ohio Special Education Regional Resource Center.
Leap said she was grateful for all the help she received from the fraternity.
"It really means a lot to me to see the Miami business fraternity to do this," Leap said. "To have their assistance and support means so much to me, because I would never be able to do this alone."
The night of bowling had a great turnout with each lane occupied by a plethora of guests, according to Segerson. The fraternity ended up raising $1,400.
Senior speech pathology and audiology major Lindsay Kodramaz said the use of technology definitely helped promote this event.
"Facebook.com does it all … it's where I got the invite for the event," Kodramaz said.
Senior social work major Kara Maruschak said she liked the event because of the cause it supported.
"In the past I have seen Utawna speak which made me want to provide support for her child," Maruschak said. "There was no reason to miss a great event for a great cause, and in return it brought the Miami community together."
