Miami University Police released the seventh Campus Crime Alert of the 2006-07 academic year Monday morning concerning a female student from Bishop Hall.

The student was allegedly woken around 4 a.m. by a college-aged white male who was hiding behind the dresser of her room.

According to the police report, as the female student was getting out of her bed, the male ran out of the room and down the stairwell. The female immediately contacted Miami University Police. However, the suspect could not be located.

The victim reportedly described him to police as about 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 11 inches in height, wearing a skullcap, blue jeans, and a dark blue or black sweatshirt.

Miami senior Caitlin Rosberg is a resident assistant (RA) at Bishop Hall and she said that she and her fellow RAs are buckling down with their residents and urging safety.

"This is a tight-knit, smaller community, and we know almost everyone going in and out of the building," Rosberg said. "Residents are being very forward to see what they can do to help. We are much more aware of nighttime safety."

Rosberg said that Bishop Hall's resident director Rachael Gebely was out of town during the incident, so the remaining RAs are reminding their residents to keep doors and windows securely locked at all times.

Sarah Ehrman, a resident of Bishop, said that the incident took her a bit off guard.

"I'm kind of surprised that it was in Bishop because nothing ever happens here," Ehrman said. "I'll probably lock my door now, especially at night."

Miami University Police Lt. Andrew Powers said MUPD detectives are still in the midst of investigating the case. He also said that although there was nothing found missing in the female's room, the suspect, if found, will be charged with burglary. In addition, Powers said burglary is defined by the Ohio Revised Code as trespass by means of deception, force, or stealth in an occupied structure.

Powers said that the events throughout Oxford during the past weekend have left the three MUPD detectives busy, but that they are continuing to search for any leads in the case. He also said that he is not sure whether the female in Bishop locked her door before she went to bed Saturday night.
