Saturday nights.
The Glee Club will be bringing back some of the classic Glee Club songs and singing some new ones to make for a longer than usual concert, explained Eric Cobb, a junior member of Glee Club.
"It's going to be hot," said Cheiku Camara, a junior member of Glee Club. "The opening alone is worth going to and Saturday's concert is already sold out."
Though the club has a fall and spring concert every year, this particular spring concert will honor the 100th anniversary.
Cobb said for a typical spring concert, there are about 10-15 alumni, made up mostly of recent graduates who come on stage to sing with the Glee Club. While this concert may not be any different, the Glee Club is anticipating a great deal of alumni to show up for the summer concert during alumni weekend June 15-16.
"All living members have gotten invitations to come back," Cobb said. "We're expecting to have about 300 Glee Club members, including alumni from as far back as the 1930s and 40s."
During the concert this weekend, current members will be singing four traditional songs, along with 12 different ones.
Cobb said that many of the pieces are particularly powerful.
The Glee Club has rehearsals three days a week and since it is a class, the club members get academic credit for it.
The club also does serenades after their Monday rehearsal on the week of a concert.
"We go around campus and serenade different dorms to get the word out," Cobb said.
First-year student and member of the Miami Choraliers, Jenny Bolam, said that anyone who has been to a Glee Club concert or seen them do a serenade knows that this group is very talented but also likes to have fun.
"You can tell that they're having fun on stage," Bolam said. "They try to incorporate a little bit of everything with their music … so you're likely to find at least one piece that you enjoy."
According to Bolam, a lot of members of the Choraliers attend Glee Club concerts to be supportive of the different musical groups on campus. The combined Miami choirs also performed Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in February with the Miami Orchestra.
