Over-the-Rhine volunteer receives $1K grant

After creating an after school program for young girls in Cincinnati's Over-the-Rhine community, Miami University senior Eva D'Intino was awarded a $1,000 Carter Entrepreneur Grant to help with funding. The program will help seventh grade girls at Rothenberg Elementary School develop their writing and artistic skills through student-designed explorations of issues pertinent to young women in urban areas, such as identity, peer pressure and race.… 1 Comment

University staff works to bring gifts to area foster children

As the holiday season approaches, most people celebrate with food, gifts and family. Yet what if there were no holiday meal, no presents and no family to celebrate with? Anita Sackenheim, chair for Miami University's Classified Personnel Advisory Committee (CPAC) holiday project, hopes its 13th annual donation drive for holiday gifts will be bigger than ever, bringing joy to at least 200 local under-privileged children who could have a Christmas like the one described above.… Post the First Comment

Miami community works to coordinate sexual assault prevention efforts

As sexual assault continues to be an ongoing problem, an advisory board geared toward education and prevention continues to generate ideas and sponsor existing programs that work toward protecting both men and women against sexual assault.  Before August 2007, organizations that handle sexual assault and prevention education were scattered throughout Miami University, and the advisory board was created to unify these groups, according to Jane Goettsch, director of the Women's Center.… Post the First Comment

Thursday, Nov. 20 was a first for the Phi Alpha Delta pre-law fraternity at Miami University. Female contraceptives to be focus of sex education lecture

Moving out of the high school classroom, sex education is making its way to Miami University.
