Man of God

Abstract:
Miami University alumnus the Rev. David Weekly said he doesn't remember much about his sermon to his Oregon church Aug. 30. He doesn't remember much but in his 27 years in the church, he said it's a day he'll never forget.

That Sunday, Weekly gave a sermon titled "My Book Report" and shared his story of transitioning from a woman to man in his 20s....

Concerned

While I cannot say that I fully understand everything that Rev. Weekly has had to endure during his 58 years, I wish to comment on something that was discussed in this article...I don't care to comment or address the issue of a transgendered clergy member, but what I do wish to comment upon is a clergy member who chose to base his ministry upon a lie. While we are all sinners and while we are saved by the grace of God, that forgiveness and grace is based upon our willingness to repent or to turn away from sin. By living a lie, he was not only non-repentant, but he was actively sinning. NOT because of his transgendered status, but because of his deceit. I would rather have someone whose decisions I struggled to understand talk to me of the battles he/she faces than to be lied to...what message does that send to a congregation? What it says clearly to me is do what I say, not as I do...a message that has caused the church problems for generations. I pray that Rev. Weekly has found peace and I applaud his decision to finally tell his congregation of his lack of truthfulness.
