To quote the second paragraph: "I just felt the old mascot uniform was not vindictive of the program or the university," Azama said.

If you could please inform Mr. Azama that "vindictive" is defined as "Marked by or resulting from a desire to hurt; spiteful."

Not sure who screwed that one up, but perhaps he meant "indicative," which means "denoting something as real and factual." I actually wouldn't mind if the new mascot was vindictive, unlike some of the Miami sports teams which are a bunch of softies.
