Abstract:
An Ohio lawmaker is currently proposing a bill that would make it illegal for persons under the age of 18 to go to artificially tan without a doctor's permission. The legislation was proposed because of the health risks that artificial tanning beds present, as high levels of use among young people has demonstrably increased their risk of developing skin cancer....

It is idiotic to suggest that a 17 year old, with parental permission to tan, should also need a doctor's permission to go to a tanning salon.
The latest study from the Harvard Medical School's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute concluded that tanning actually protects against skin cancer. Apparently dermatologists have been misleading the public about alleged dangers of tanning.
Will teens eventually need a doctor's note to go to a swimming pool or the beach?
Are medical insurers willing to pay for this sort of frivolous doctor's visit.
This is just more anti-business legislation, this time targeting tanning salons. Hopefully the majority of the legislature has the common sense to defeat it.
