I agree that lawful concealed carry should be permitted on any college campus. These are constitutional RIGHTS and not subject to permission from an academic "Board". I realize the concerns about safety, however the person who is going to commit mass murder on a college campus is not going to care about getting permission to carry his firearms . If there had been only a few trained concealed carrying individuals on the Virginia Poly Tech campus, I believe that the body count would have been far less than it was. As for the persons who "feel" that they are safe on college campus, all I can say is they haven't been shot at yet.
I am a college student, fifty one years old,and I carry concealed. No one knows it's there and they will never know it's there unless they try to murder me or anyone else.

The web site is not up yet.

As far as the comments from the dean. The police will not generally promote open or concealed carry... because the official attitude is that less guns and less positive news about guns = less gun violence.

A few years ago in texas, the police hauled a massively nasty car wreck to the corner of our town. They put a sign in front that said something like "two people lost their lives in thiw crash, slow down."

People slowed down.

If the criminals know that the average citizen is armed and ready to defend him/herself then when someone is standing outside of a house they intend to break into... do you think thyey may say to themsevels..."Um, do you think he has a gun?"

I was in Killeen when the Luby's shooting happened. Almost ate there. If I had been armed, and been there, then what would have happened differently?
If one teacher in Colombine high school had a gun, what might have happened differently.

The reality is that the criminals are armed. Sometimes even armed better than the police. We are responsible for our OWN self protection as per the constitution of the United States. Taking our guns away from us is about the same thing as the US disarming all of their nukes whil everyone else refuses to disarm theirs. Now, if the government itself will not open themselves to a gut shot from another country, then what insanity makes them believe that they should impose a restriction that they themselves would never accept?

I applaud the Students for Concealed Carry on Campus. I hope they wake some people up. I agree with Ron Payne that carrying a firearm for self-defense is a constitutional right, and would add: it also is a natural right which predates the Constitution.
Too many university presidents hold politically-correct views, and don't trust adults of ANY age to handle guns responsibly.
Amid coverage of the awful crime at Virginia Tech, the media forgot to mention a prior shooting at Virginia's Appallachian School of Law. There, two students retrieved guns from their off-campus cars and disarmed the killer without firing a shot. Thereafter, the Law School rescinded its no-guns policy, and now allows persons with concealed handgun permits to carry on campus.

I have to agree with Ron Payne. In order to get the CCW permit you have to go through an extensive background check in order to obtain it. I also believe that people know that law abiding citizens are "packing", those who are not carrying legally may think twice about the crime they are about to comit.

Great words of Feltoon "We think one person at the right place at the right time could have lessened or eliminated the body count," I completly agree with Feltoon.
