Miami senior receives Fulbright scholarship
Miami University senior Rebekah Farrar received a Fulbright Award for the 2009-10 school year.
Farrar is a math major with a minor in Chinese and French. Farrar will be teaching English to middle school children in Taiwan for one year, as part of an English teaching assistantship.
Farrar has studied abroad in China and France. She also performed with the Miami orchestra in Luxembourg.
Nearly 300,000 people have received Fulbright scholarships and have had the opportunity to study, teach or conduct research on a global level. Around 7,500 grants are awarded every year.
Athletic teams recognized for academic placement
Three Miami University athletic teams were awarded academic recognition by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
This week, the men's cross country team, women's field hockey team and men's golf team received multi-year Academic Progress Rate scores in the top 10 percent of all teams within their sporting category.
According to NCAA, the members of these teams had high academic performance and students' progress recorded each semester.
The reports also include eligibility, retention and graduation in their summary of each team. The men's cross country team, women's field hockey team and men's golf team each received perfect scores of 1,000. The three teams were three of 767 teams to be awarded the honors.
Film screening highlights Israeli Palestinian conflict
Interfaith Circle will be showing the award-winning feature documentary Encounter Point at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 28 in 217 McGuffey Hall. The film highlights positive and peaceful resolutions and interactions in regards to Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The documentary, highlighting the lives of an Israeli settler, a Palestinian ex-prisoner, a bereaved Israeli mother and a wounded Palestinian, premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in April 2006.
There will be free pizza available and a discussion will take place after the screening.
