Professor receives grant for summer '10 research
Sven-Erik Rose, assistant professor of French and Italian, was recently awarded a residential fellowship to the Simon Dubnow Institute for Jewish History and Culture at Leipzig University for summer 2010.
Rose's research focuses on Jewish literature, the cultural history of Germany and France from the Enlightenment period to today and Jewish American immigrant literature and the Holocaust.
Shriver inducted into veteran hall of fame
Phillip Shriver, Miami University president-emeritus, was inducted into the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame Friday afternoon in Columbus by Gov. Ted Strickland.
The Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame was established in 1992 to recognize Ohio veterans with honorable military service who go on to serve their community, profession, state and nation.
Shriver fought in the Navy in World War II from July 1943 until 1946, and was president of Miami from 1965 to 1981 and taught for a total of 51 years.
Panel to discuss sexual orientation, perspectives
A new program will discuss various sexual orientations and experiences at 7 p.m. Nov. 12 in 322 McGuffey.
The event will consist of a panel of students with an array of sexualities, including homosexual, bisexual and heterosexual, as well those who are and are not sexually active.
Students will be able to ask the panelists any questions, to provide attendees with an understanding of others' sexual perspectives. The program is sponsored by the department of kinesiology and health and a KNH 206 class: Etiology, Prevalence and Prevention.
Graduate student is finalist in art competition
Katie Schutte, Miami University art graduate student is a top 10 finalist in the INTRO: Art & Fashion Competition. The competition gives artists the chance to have their design on a Harveys Seatbeltbag.

The current voting process will decide the top three finalists, which will then be judged by a panel.
