Twix, a brand of Mars Incorporated, is looking for funny college students-the funniest to be exact.

The "TWIX Funniest College Student on Campus Contest" asks students to submit a video to make the judges laugh by telling a joke, performing a comedy sketch or recounting a funny story.

Megan Ogulnick, a representative for Twix's public relations firm Weber Shandwick, said the contest is designed to help students break into a future in comedy.

"Twix is all about providing America with the ultimate break, whether it's from work, school or just life in general," Ogulnick said. "They took this idea to a whole new level by offering one funny college student a shot at a break in the comedy business."

Ogulnick said the grand prize for the contest includes a $3,000 check, a trip to Chicago to see six different shows during the summer 2009 TBS "Very Funny" festival and a one-week Chicago internship to learn the business of comedy. The winner, along with three semi-finalists will also win 288 single-sized Twix bars.

According to Ogulnick, Twix is hosting the contest because Twix is the official snack of the TBS "Very Funny" Festival. This is the first time the company has done a competition similar to this.

Ogulnick said all videos will be judged on a variety of criteria, but at the end of the contest only four will move on to the semi-finals.

"Contest entries will be judged on humor, creativity, originality and the appropriateness to the Twix brand," Ogulnick said. "The four videos that fit all these categories will be in the semi-finals."

According to the official contest rules, a second panel of judges will review the four semi-finalists and determine a winner using the same criteria.

Currently, two videos are posted on the Twix Funniest Student Web site.

The reaction of Miami University students to the contest has been positive, but some students have mixed feelings about participating.

"I think it sounds like an awesome idea for people who are generally funny or like to have a good laugh," junior Michelle Embleton said.

However, Embleton said she does not plan to submit a video.

"I don't think people understand my sarcasm," she said.

Junior Trevor Self said participating is a win-win situation.

"What do you have to lose?" Self asked.

According to Ogulnick, Twix does not have an expected number of participants, however, the company thinks the reward will encourage submissions.

"We're hoping the prize will generate a strong response from college kids across the nation," Ogulnick said.

The competition began Feb. 2 and will end at 10 a.m. April 1.
