The innovative and sarcastic comedy group, Team Win, will be performing a comedy show using video clips to amuse the audience during their live performance, Team Win Comes Alive, which consists of one-act plays for three nights.
Senior Ben Majoy, the show's writer and actor in the three-night production, said his inspiration for the show comes from cartoons, situational humor and dramatic movies.
"(It's a) collaboration of people that want to put together something that is out of the ordinary, and we are just doing it because you don't see it much and it's fun," Majoy said. "It is an experimental show and it is universal comedy. It is very modern."
The group uses satire, along with everyday situations that take place in ordinary life.
Senior Alex Homer, theater and mass communication major, is the show's producer. Homer said his dual role as producer and actor has been time-consuming.
"It was a lot of hard work," Homer said. "I am used to just being an actor."
Homer, Majoy and junior Rob Bakke will perform in all three of the one-act scenes.
Homer said the show is not just entertainment, but will also impact him academically.
"Team Win Comes Alive is actually my senior project," Homer said. "It is my departmental honors project."
Team Win started with about six students who lived in Collins Hall during their first year at Miami in 2005.
The group is currently comprised of eight people.
Homer said he and Majoy created the idea of the group.
"Team Win was kind of the brain child of Ben (Majoy) and I," Homer said.
Homer said a lot of work goes into a show like this.
"A show like this has been a really hard process," Homer said. "Our Web site is kind of the basis of all of this. This show is a different way to present our group, a different way for us to get our name out there, besides through our Web site."
From August 2005 to May 2007, Team Win had a radio show on WMSR called "Team Win Radio," where they performed comedic sketches.
In summer 2008, the group started a Web site where they posted videos.
Homer said he has several duties for the show.
"Our show is basically three one-act plays," Homer said. "I am acting in two of them. I have been working with lighting designers and stage managers and bringing all of the people together that are needed to be involved in creating a production."
Homer said the group has been publicizing its upcoming shows to the best of their abilities.
"Obviously, it is going to be our friends and people who have seen the Web site," Homer said. "Although, we would like to branch away from that. The show is definitely not meant for children."
Team Win Comes Alive's performances are free of charge and will be at 8 p.m. April 2 to 4 in Studio 88 in the basement of the Center for Performing Arts.
