Edun Live expands to eight campuses

They say good things come to those who wait, but Edun Live On Campus isn't waiting to find out.

With recent acclamation from the Princeton Review, a partnership with the athletics department and aggressive expansion on other schools' campuses, Edun Live On Campus (ELOC), does not see the need to wait for it's shining moment: it has already come.

ELOC is a student-run T-shirt business that promotes clothing with a conscience, said senior Danny Sauter, Miami University chapter president.

The good news started coming when Miami's entrepreneurship major ranked 15th of all undergraduate programs in the Princeton Review and Entrepreneur magazine.

Sauter said ELOC received praise from Robert Franek, Princeton Review's vice president of publishing, for its initiative to give students an entrepreneurship opportunity.

Sauter said ELOC has expanded to eight other college campuses, including Ohio State University, University of Wisconsin and Notre Dame University.

Katie Mulligan, ELOC's adviser, said the group should expand to at least 50 schools by the end of the school year.

"I started Aug. 1 and the goal of my position is to expand the program to 100 campuses within the next year or two," Mulligan said. "When I came on board we had just added three more and have about 10 that are in discussion."

Mulligan said a recent partnership in the works with a Cincinnati company has helped recent expansion. The name of the company could not be disclosed at this time due to contractual obligations.

"They will hold inventory for us and provide an order management system that eases the process for new colleges to come on board," Mulligan said. "They also bring a licensing element into the program. ELOC will now be in the bookstores as well as a campus team that'll do campus and community apparel. It's just being finalized within the past month."

Sauter said Miami students will see more ELOC apparel around campus because of a recent partnership with the athletics department.

"Every year, the athletic department gives a T-shirt to every student-athlete on campus," Sauter said. "ELOC will be doing the T-shirt. It's a great partnership that really shows the commitment of the athletics community to our mission."

ELOC doesn't want to stop there, as it plans to partner with other nationally recognized organizations.

"On a national level, we're working with fraternities and sororities and alumni on all chapter campuses," Mulligan said.

Sauter said with the recent publicity, the initial goal of ELOC is still very relevant.

"One goal is to educate the college market on the importance of your purchases," Sauter said. "Our goal is to promote sustainable employment in Africa. We buy the blank T-shirt from EDUN Live, which does the day(-to-)day operation in these countries. We buy the T-shirts at premium prices because the workers are paid fair wages."

The press, partnerships and campus expansion has enabled the group to further promote and evaluate their objective, Sauter said.

"It's really good validation for what our organization works on each and every day," Sauter said.
