A technical problem involving the firewall for myMiami caused disruption Monday morning leaving students without BannerWeb, Miami University e-mail and the university phone system, according to Cathy McVey, director of IT Services customer relations and communication. McVey said at some point Monday morning, the secondary firewall did not see the primary one, causing the system to malfunction. She said the backup firewall was shut off and the primary firewall was restarted in attempt to fix it.

"They were both trying to act as the primary firewall," McVey said. "We're not sure exactly what triggered it."

McVey said IT has been working on the phone with BlackBoard technical support. The e-mail and phone systems were fixed quickly, but McVey said she was not sure when BlackBoard would be working again.

"Normally these firewall systems work fine," McVey said. "This isn't the way they should be working. The main efforts right now are getting Blackboard up and running."

MyMiami was restored late Monday evening.
