Oxford Police Department (OPD) patrols will be out in full force March 5.

According to Sgt. Jim Squance, OPD will spend more than $2,000 for personnel on Green Beer Day, and the staffing is expected to be similar for St. Patrick's Day.

Extra officers from OPD as well as agents from the Ohio Division of Liquor Patrol will be uptown, Squance said.

"There will be a full complement of police officers out," Squance said.

Squance said officers and agents will be on foot patrol through uptown bars dressed in uniform and in plain clothes.

Squance said anyone who has an appearance of public drunkenness will be stopped and questioned. If these individuals are found to be intoxicated, Squance said they will be placed under arrest.

"People go about their everyday lives and business, so there will be high visibility (of public intoxication)," Squance said. "Police will take immediate enforcement action against anyone who appears to be under the influence of alcohol."
