Name: Jorie Ganser Class: Junior Hometown: Elmhurst, Ill. Major: Health Promotion Political Affiation: Moderate Choice for President: McCain

Miami University junior Jorie Ganser, a health studies major from Elmhurst, Ill., comes from a family of Republicans.

And although Ganser describes herself as a political moderate, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) has won her vote.

"I don't agree with every conservative idea," Ganser said. "There are some things that I disagree on with McCain."

Recognizing Sen. Barack Obama's (D-Ill.) favor in Illinois, Ganser said she registered to vote in Ohio in September as a strategic move.

"If I vote in Ohio, historically a swing state, then my vote will matter more, and the state might go Republican," Ganser said. "It would just be a wasted vote (in Illinois)."

As a politically moderate student, Ganser said policies on the economy and taxes swung her vote toward McCain.

"I don't support high taxes because I think the government is insufficient with the money they get from (taxes)," Ganser said. "I don't agree with the 'more money you make, the more you should be taxed' (policy)."

Other issues important to Ganser include national security, abortion and the environment.

Ganser said after she learned about the effects of pollution on humans and about global warming, she began recycling at her apartment and using only organic dish and laundry detergents.

While Ganser admitted she is not completely satisfied with McCain, she said he is the better of the two candidates.

Since mailing her Ohio absentee ballot, Ganser can only wait and see if her vote made a difference.
