Both men and women at Miami University can relate to the days of strapping on shin guards or tying up a pair of cleats. Last week reflected the elite level of competition from both the men and women's club soccer teams.

Due to a large number of players who graduated in May, this year's women's club soccer team is full of eager sophomores and freshman with their high school spirit close to their hearts, helping to reiterate the fun and passion that create a successful team.

"We all love soccer, we are good friends, we get to hang out a lot and we have made soccer fun by keeping it laid back," junior Andrea Dappen said.

Seniors Mark Stein and Tim Hudson, full-time students, serve as the coaches. These two men have been able to ensure a regimented schedule with plenty of room for the team to bond outside of practices and games. This has allowed the team to become dedicated yet flexible in how they juggle playing a highly competitive sport, academics, and other after school activities.

This team is based on a group of individuals who demonstrate the ideals of a true team environment.

President Emily Parker has been on the team since her freshman year and has been able to maintain the rare atmosphere that she fell for her first semester at Miami. Parker has earned this title through her three-year commitment to the team and her ability to stay organized and maintain a relaxed attitude. When talking about her experience, she often referred to the fact that women on the team are some of her best friends and although their season goes through October, she spends most of her year with these talented women.

"I'm so excited about the new players," Parker said. "Our team chemistry is great so hopefully we can take all of that and our hard work onto the field to win games."

What has also come to raise the success of this team is their ability to communicate and challenge one another. They all make up a giant support system that promotes each person and allows constructive criticism to constant building team character.

With a variety of young women ranging from freshman to seniors involved in a variety of majors and activities, the women's club soccer team has built a legacy through the foundations of dedication, love for the sport and lots of fun. The season opener is Saturday in Milwaukee and the team will be back at home the first weekend in October.

So Miami students, discover the love and fun in the women's club soccer team and be sure to get your club on!
