The men's and women's swimming and diving teams are strong in both the water and in the classroom, with 15 of the swimmers receiving Academic All-MAC honors.

After winning the MAC championships in late February, two Miami University swimmers looked to continue their success at the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships, held at Texas A&M University March 19 to 21. Senior freestyler Alyson Schmidt and sophomore breaststroker Kelsey Vehr became the first pair for Miami in more than a decade to participate at nationals in the same year. Schmidt swam the 50, 100 and 200 freestyle races, while Vehr swam in the 100 and 200 breaststroke events.

After a long weekend, the two RedHawk swimmers wrapped up their seasons with Schmidt clocking in at 00:50.09 on the 100-yard freestyle, and Vehr swimming to a time of 2:16:42 in the 200 breaststroke. Schmidt finished 55th out of 63 competitors, while Vehr finished 46th out of 50.

"We swam okay," head coach Dave Jennings said. "We would have liked for them to have had faster times, but all in all, it was a good experience for both of them. It was definitely a good way for Aly to end her career, and with Kelsey, it will prepare her well for future seasons."

To add on to an already great year for both the men and women's swim teams, 15 men and women's swimmers and divers were named to the Academic All-MAC squad. Six of the 15 Redhawks were nominated to the first team, including seniors Nick DuPuis, Maggie French, Melissa Roemmele and Allison Stevens. Junior David Brown and sophomore Megan Brunn were also selected for the first team squad.

Nine more Miami swimmers earned honorable mention tags, including seniors Jason Bank, Davis Mell, and Jennifer Nemeth. Juniors Austin Kosier, Rachel Smith and Allison Way were also added to the squad along with sophomores Jason Hass, Tom Janszen and Nicole Roddenbery.
