For the past 20 years, lacrosse programs have swept the nation hitting both coasts, thus strengthening the level of competition. The Miami University men's club lacrosse team is no exception, as the team has grown to be a successful unit in pursuit of reaching varsity status. Although this year's team is relatively new with a majority of freshmen and sophomores, the knowledge of the upperclassman is expected to drive the team to national status. In spring 2009 the team made it to nationals for the first time in five years, leaving returning players hungry for more.

"We have added a lot of quality depth throughout my time on the team," senior Andrew Green said. "With the guidance of our senior class, all the returning talent as well as the new guys, this team is looking better than ever."

Miami alum and Head Coach Chuck Wilson has been with the team for three years integrating a strong work hard, play hard mentality by allowing them to grow as both individuals and as a group. He has enhanced the level of play with his consistent positive influence and love of lacrosse.

"Coach Wilson has really helped us come together the past three seasons," senior TJ Slattery said. "He has organized the team, put in offenses and defenses and turned a good club into a great club."

Juniors Rob Elias and Kyle Hallion explained how much of an influence the team has made on their college experience.

"This team has allowed us all to excel as a players and we make that happen for each other," Elias said. "Adding the support and guidance of our coaches this year could definitely get Miami national recognition."

One aspect that has allowed the team to be successful is the variety of backgrounds, leading to a blend of multiple styles of play. By training hard and playing hard on the field the expectations have raised each season.

"We have high hopes to be solid competitors and give our division rivals a run for their money," Hallion said.

While the spring schedule is much more intensive, the fall season has become vital in gaining momentum and allowing on field chemistry to build.

"This fall we're practicing hard and playing some tournaments," Slattery said. "Come spring we'll be fighting hard to defend Yager Stadium against a swarm of opposition coming in from our rival schools."

The season begins Oct. 10 at Yager Stadium following the football game, as the team begins its quest for a title. With the team's ability to produce multiple wins on home turf and their laid-back attitude and style, the men's club lacrosse team is one to stay in touch with. Mosey on down to Yager to support your 'Hawks and always be sure to get your club on!
