Name: Antonio Ballard Sport: Basketball Hometown: Jeffersonville, Indiana
Katie Giovinale (KG): When did you first decide that you wanted to play basketball?
Antonio Ballard (AB): In second or third grade. Down where I came from all they did was play ball. I knew it was something I could seriously be good at. I started out on a team where I was the only third grader on a team of all fourth and fifth graders. Playing with older kids got me confident and motivated as a young child.
KG: What were some of your accomplishments once you got to high school?
AB: I was 1st team all-conference player of the year, I made the Indiana All-Stars team, I got invited to all star games and was invited to top 40 workouts.
KG: What position do you play?
AB: I'm a shooting guard-small forward mostly.
KG: What does that involve?
AB: It's not a ball-handler per say. It's crashing the boards, rebounding. You do a lot of posting up and moving without the ball.
KG: How did you choose Miami?
AB: The coach at Butler (University) actually helped me out a lot and called Coach Coles about me. I was so glad to be looked at by a Division I school. The coaches were real cool and the campus was beautiful.
KG: What's your favorite thing about Miami?
AB: I like the people around here, I feel like there's stuff to do. It's a good educational school. It'll look good on any resume just to see that you went to Miami.
KG: What do you do in your free time?
AB: I mostly just hang out with my friends and my girlfriend and her friends.
KG: What's your major?
AB: Sports studies with a marketing minor.
KG: Any plans yet for the future?
AB: Hopefully I'll go overseas and play pro ball but you have to have backup. I'm going to take some internships and see where they go.
