Senior forward Tyler Dierkers and the RedHawks stand alone in second place in the MAC east division after their 15-point road victory over Eastern Michigan Saturday.

The Miami University men's basketball team made the best out of its trip to Ypsilanti, Michigan Saturday.

The RedHawks (12-7, 5-2) remain in second place of the MAC east after outlasting the Eastern Michigan University Eagles 66-51 in regulation.

Senior forward Tyler Dierkers led Miami with a career high 18 points in addition to snatching 12 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. Dierkers was especially potent on the offensive glass, seizing a-half dozen rebounds.

Also chipping in was center Adam Fletcher who scorched the nets for a career-high 16 points on six of eight shooting from the floor. Fletcher also owned the glass, pulling down a career-best of eight rebounds.

"My teammates really got me involved tonight," Fletcher said. "They were penetrating, pitching it to me, putting me in good position and believing that I can score and throwing me the ball in the post. Obviously team contribution is huge and out-rebounding teams is always huge. Coaches stress it every day in practice. We've got to keep it going."

The 'Hawks opened up the game with a 12-4 run. Three of the 12 points came by way of an Eric Pollitz triple. The bottom dwelling Eagles (3-18) could not compete against a determined Miami team with a surprisingly balanced attack.

EMU failed to knock down the door, as a two-point differential was the closest it came to over taking coach Charlie Coles' squad.

Sophomore guard Antonio Ballard and Pollitz accounted for five points before the half to stick Miami ahead 27-21. With 10 minutes remaining, the Red and White jumped out to their largest lead of the game with the score 47-29.

Dierkers cashed in for six of his points during the 'Hawks 11-2 run. The Eagle had landed for Eastern Michigan and they could not bridge the double figure lead amassed by its thriving visitor.

Senior leader Michael Bramos touched up the Eagles for 14 points. The forward failed to reach the 20-point mark once again but his teammates came to the rescue and displayed the ideal balance characteristic of a team with post-season dreams.

"I put my self in position to finish," Dierkers said. "Guys were getting me great shots on offense. It's a credit to our guards getting me some great looks. We all know what Bramos is capable of, but no doubt we are much better team when we get contributions out of everyone. It makes us more balanced and anybody's capable of a big night."

With the win, the 'Hawks remain one game behind the first place University at Buffalo Bulls in the MAC East standings. The victory marked the third straight road win for the Red and White.

"We just have to take every game one game at a time," Coles said. "Buffalo is awful good and we play them the last game of the year. We are really focused on our team improving and not the standings right now. There is a lot of work ahead for us. We've got to keep our nose to the grindstone. Later on in the year we can look at other folks and see what's going on. We got a big one on Wednesday, Ball State … Ball State!"

The Ball State University Cardinals will stagger into Millett Hall at 7 p.m. Wednesday night to face off against the RedHawks.
